Public trading forums are nothing new. People have been publicly trading ideas for thousands of years. Twenty-four hundred years ago, Plato, one of history’s most famous thinkers, said life is like being chained up in a cave forced to watch shadows on a stone wall. This allegory made me think of all the shadows of “truth” we are fed on the journey to becoming a professional retail trader. 

All you have to do is go look at some of the free trading forums on the Net to see all the people who are still locked in the”Cave” of unrealistic expectations.

When you watch this video, keep these metaphors in mind:

Prisoners = Novice traders

Menagerie of objects = Price action

Intricate shadow play = Patterns on a chart

Freed prisoner = IW Customer after about three months

Blinding light = Mastery of DTS

New perception of world outside of the cave =
Realizing you are an independent, self-directed retail trader

Reality back in the cave = Negative trading forums

The World Outside of the Cave = Financial Freedom!

I realize the video is pretty intense. But, hopefully, it will make you think a little bit about yourself, and where you are on your trading Odyssey.  So, the next time you’re on one of the free trading forums, and you see people complaining about a trading system having losing trades (as if any system would ever have 100% wins), think about the real reality of trading. Don’t be deceived into thinking success is just matter of finding the most accurate entry signal. And, instead remember that trading enlightenment is more a matter of honing one’s craft and merging science (mathematical algorithms) and art (practiced technique).
